About 2,300 veterans, active duty service members and civilians participated in the parade Saturday. Brig Gen. Glenn Walters of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing served as the Grand Marshal.

Thousands more spectators stood by, saluting and clapping as the parade promenaded down Arendell Street toward the N.C. Port from 17th Street.

Local, county and state officials, prisoners of war, Gold Star Mothers, numerous active duty and retired armed forces members, military officials from area units and leaders of veteran’s organizations from all around Eastern North Carolina participated.

In addition to the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band, West Carteret High School Band, East Carteret High School Band, Croatan High School Band, Havelock High School Band and the Havelock Community Band also performed.

The Army Reserve, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and numerous veterans’ organizations provided color guards and military equipment.

The parade is organized and staffed with volunteers each year through the County Veterans Service Office.

Our own Carteret County Association of Realtors also participated in the Parade.  We carried flags for each branch of the Service.  My children also participated by handing out American Flags to all of the spectators.  What a great way to support our Heros, Men and Women who have proudly served and still continue to serve our Blessed Country.
